What is the scale of the works and improvements to the fitness facilities?
The existing gym equipment was installed in 2017, some of which is now beyond its expected lifespan and is showing its age. Furthermore, the range of equipment and gym layout has significant scope for improvement to avoid the bottlenecks that currently exist.
This project will replace the cardio equipment, as well as adding a large volume of additional strength training equipment - dumbbells, benches, squat racks, plate loaded machines and cables.
In order to get this project right the first time, we employed Track My Gym who specialise in advising some of the world’s largest gym operators.
Between 19th - 27th November 2024 they attached sensors to the existing equipment to measure usage over 7 days, enabling them to make key recommendations on how to optimise the gym floor. These recommendations, and the usage data upon which they were made, have heavily influenced our purchasing decisions so we can be confident the new range of equipment will be exactly what is needed for TW2 members.
There will also be flooring, lighting and decoration taking place as part of the project.
What facilities will be closed/remain open?
The project is likely to be completed by early summer 2025. It is currently anticipated that no gym closure will be required, with the project being completed in sections for this reason.
However, this does mean there will be a period of disruption whilst the works take place. During the project we appreciate the patience and understanding of members.
What will happen with memberships during this time?
Fitness Memberships will run as usual with access to the gym being unaffected, despite some minor disruption.
The group exercise classes will be scheduled to operate as normal and all other areas of the club will be unaffected.
What improvements will be made to the gym?
Equipment will be provided by Life Fitness, who are our long term fitness equipment partners and market leaders. They are the world's largest manufacturer and provider of fitness equipment.
The new current cardio equipment will come equipped with SE4 touchscreen consoles with full connectivity and a wide range of immersive on-demand workouts.
As part of the project, we will also be creating a large dedicated Hammer Strength plate loaded training zone, providing 14 stations of plate loaded strength equipment. This area will add variety to the strength offering at TW2 as well as alleviating some of the overcrowding and waiting for equipment in the free weights and fixed resistance areas.
We will redesign the free weights area and add additional benches and squat racks to meet demand. As well as installing an additional 5 cable ‘Multi-Jungle’.
A few smaller additions of widely asked for, or data driven, pieces of pin loaded resistance equipment will also be added.
A second, separate free weights area will also be created with additional dumbbells towards the lighter end of the spectrum, an additional cable machine and Smith Machine.
Lastly, a dedicated stretch area with extensive matting and both abdominal and lower back extension benches will also be created.
